Lorelei Beach Resort Samal is a best place for couples who prefer privacy and comfort. The place is very serene and not crowded (we actually felt like we own the hotel and the beach). Although there were ongoing constructions in the neighborhood, but the noise was manageable.
I and my girlfriend looked for a great place to stay in Samal where we can spend our 1st anniversary. As I was surfing the internet, I happened to read a blog about a new beach hotel in Barangay Catagman in Samal named Lorelei Beach Resort.
I thought it was nice and we agreed to make a reservation. We chose the room with sea-view balcony.
I was a bit disappointed that the ‘Superior Room with Sea View’ was worth 3,500 after I called their office. I thought it was only 3,000 as it was advertised on their Facebook page and their website. I almost turned it down but my girlfriend insisted that it was okay and so I pursued the reservation.
It was Friday afternoon and I called their office again to make a reservation. To fulfill transaction, we were requested to pay at least 30% of the price of the room and to deposit it to their account through Security Bank.
Heading to Lorelei Beach Resort Samal is easy peasy. In our case, we had to commute since we don’t have any vehicle. From Sasa Wharf, we rode a barge to get to Babak Wharf. From there, we rode a habal-habal to get to Lorelei Beach Resort. The travel time from Babak Wharf to the beach is around 15 to 20 minutes.
If you are driving, you can just easily navigate the road heading to Brgy. Catagman. Look for the street signs and banners of the resort. Other than that, Lorelei has also a van that can pick you up from Babak Wharf to their place. They can charge 200 to 300 pesos per person depending on the number of people going.
It was past 3 pm when we arrived at the place. My first impression was that the area is huge. When I got to examine the place, I realized that the whole scenery was awesome. What I saw on photos were not much different from the things I saw with my own eyes. The hotel was like a mansion seating on the beachfront. It was serene and we could hear the sea breeze clearly as if inviting us to jump off the land into the water. However, it was low tide when we arrived.
As we entered the hotel, we were greeted by a woman, whom I talked to when we made a reservation. She and other staff were friendly and accommodating.
Since we chose the best room they offer and the most expensive one, we expected a lot.
As we entered the room, I saw that it was not spacious as I thought it would be. But it was okay since the balcony was huge and the sea view was enticing.
But we were shocked to know that the television was not working, when I tried to turn it on. Another thing that made us feel disappointed was the air-conditioner. We were not allowed to turn the temperature up or down, only the switch on/off and the fan speed. So the room was not as cold as the way we wanted. We have to turn on the electric fan beside the bed to compromise the situation.
We called their attention about the television and they were fast to respond to our request. They checked the television and the socket. But in the end, it was not working. So, we ended up moving to a new room with the same sea-view balcony.
It was blessing in disguise, I thought, because the second room was huge and more spacious than the first. The TV in this room was already working but still the air conditioner sucks.
Another thing we dealt with was the TV channels. We thought it has cable channels but none, only 4 local channels were working and the reception was not that great. The attendant told us that they will fix the reception as soon as possible but they didn’t.
What’s more, WIFI was very limited. The attendant was using a pocket wifi only, which of course had a very poor connection and limited range. So we never bother to surf the internet. Instead, we spent the time looking at the beautiful sea view, which was the right thing to do.
The comfort room was also spacious and clean. But the major shocker was that the water from the faucet tasted salty. But thank God we brought a bottled mineral water with us. I did not mind it at first but when my girlfriend complained that her rebonded hair had been damaged, I was really disappointed. She said her hair was getting dry and dull and some of it was starting to curl after she took a shower. We suspected it was the water since it tasted like sea.
So for girls with rebonded hair, BEWARE of the water from the faucet.
There was also an instance where we thought somebody was knocking our door, but we found out it was the ongoing construction in the neighborhood.
THE SWIMMING POOL
The pool adds an attraction to the beautiful site and a great relaxation aside from the beach. It is good enough for small crowd to enjoy.
We did not expect much about the pool. I planned to swim at it by early morning, but I was turned off seeing the color of the pool. I did not mean to say that it was dirty but I just thought it was not attractive, which my girlfriend also agreed. Later that day the attendant told us they put chlorine into the pool because they thought we were going to use it and that the water was clean. Unlucky me, I haven’t tried it because I was a freak. But I advise you to try that one.
The beachfront is not quite vast but ultimately attractive. There were wooden lounges and offset patio umbrellas everywhere, where you can go on sunbathing or just simply relaxing. The beach is clean and well maintained. It is not too rocky unlike other resorts. The beach sand is pale cream and fine.
There’s no restaurant in this resort. All of the food are cooked by their own staff. They have a menu which has limited dishes to choose from. The food were pricey, but the serving was very generous.
For our dinner, we ordered Sinabaw Na Malasugi, plain rice and fresh fruit platter. They tasted so delightful.
For breakfast, they served us a sumptuous meal. We did not bother to order since we have a free breakfast included in the package. We got rice, ham, fried egg and pancakes. We were, of course, super ‘busog’!
The coffee was also remarkable. We forgot to ask the brand of the coffee but we were pretty sure it’s neither Nescafe nor Kopiko.
What’s good: The area’s serenity, the seaview balcony, the beachfront, the food (pricey but delicious) and the staff.
Things that can be improved: The salty tap water (or at least you may inform the guests about it), the TV channels and reception, the air conditioner (can we at least adjust the temperature for once?), and the WIFI connection.
CONCLUSION: We enjoyed our stay here. My girlfriend and I had a really great time together. Lorelei Beach Resort Samal may not live up to our expectations, but it still has awesome things to offer.
It’s been a long time since I last posted here.
I’m trying to update this blog of mine since I got no job.
I’m homebody for quite some time now.
My homebased news writing went wrong.
There are some things that will not cooperate with you, as much as you want to be positive.
And since I am still looking for a job, why not checking out my blog?
So what are the things I am planning to do now?
WRITE, WRITE, WRITE!
That’s the first one.
I have been to creating web contents for the last couple of years.
They said I have way with words. I just realized that I have. BUT, there is so much to learn.
And I’m still developing my writing prowess.
Second, READ READ READ!
Yeah, reading is my game.
But lately I left some materials unattended. Why is that?
Perhaps, I am too lazy. Or, my anxiety strikes.
Whatever that is, really, read Paulo!
The most powerful tool is pray.
What to pray about?
Many things. For instance, pray that soon you will have your job.
Pray that you will have a steady and awesome relationship with your girlfriend.
I realized, there are a lot to pray for.
Anyway, enough of my rant. What I am really trying to saying is ‘hi’ to myself and to anybody who unfortunately reads this post.
“This is me! I don’t have to change”
In some aspects, yes, you don’t have to.
But, in terms of productivity and adaptability in a new environment, not necessary.
“It is not the strongest or the most intelligent who will survive but those who can best manage change.”
“Adaptability is about the powerful difference between adapting to cope and adapting to win.”
“The art of life is a constant readjustment to our surroundings.”
“ Adaptability is not imitation. It means power of resistance and assimilation.”
“You can’t build an adaptable organization without adaptable people–and individuals change only when they have to, or when they want to.”
“People will try to tell you that all the great opportunities have been snapped up. In reality, the world changes every second, blowing new opportunities in all directions, including yours.”
“Learn to adjust yourself to the conditions you have to endure, but make a point of trying to alter or correct conditions so that they are most favorable to you.”
–William Frederick Book
“All fixed set patterns are incapable of adaptability or pliability. The truth is outside of all fixed patterns.”
“A wise man adapts himself to circumstances, as water shapes itself to the vessel that contains it.”
“The price of doing the same old thing is far higher than the price of change.”
“Each of us has the opportunity to change and grow until our very last breath. Happy creating.”
“Change or die.”
If you want to be successful or to lift up yourself or your business a little more, believe that there is always some thing(s) within you that needed to be changed. (Okay, I made this one.)
4 REASONS TO WATCH FRIENDS (TV SHOW)
FRIENDS? “How you doin?”
FRIENDS (sitcom/ TV show) is an American television series aired from 1994 to 2004. It has 10 seasons and I was 2 years old when this TV show started.
Actually, I start watching FRIENDS just this year because my bestfriend told me so, I tried and then, I become addicted.
2014 and addicted of watching Friends, you might ask, how come?
1. Absolutely HILARIOUS
Obviously, this is sitcom. It’s supposed to be funny. Yeah right, but, from all sitcoms I have watched, Friends has made me laughed all the time. Perhaps, the jokes and spiels are delivered very well. No over-acting just to look funny, no. This is a kind of sitcom that was really carefully crafted to make it more natural so as to deliver effective comedy.
Each character has a certain way to make someone laugh.
Also, I noticed their remarkable hair styles and costumes which are also funny.
2. Characters are ENDEARING
From the first time I have watched the first episode, already, I got each unique character portrayed by the actors and actresses.
2nd, the way each portrayed the character was natural. It was like I am just watching a real story of real friends in the apartment.
3. The Opening Song “I’ll be there for you”
The song made a great contribution to the sitcom. The song is about counting on friends and remembering each other throughout the years. The song enlivens the mood even before the start of the show.
I have had a last song syndrome of this… “I’ll be there for you… when the rain stops to pour.. I’ll be there for you… like I’ve been there before…” (I’m singing)
So, this song is timeless.
4. The Story is Still RELEVANT
At first I thought I will get the feeling of Out-of-Place because as I have known, this sitcom is old and I thought I might not gonna relate to it. However, I was wrong.
The story is very simple which is about the 6 single friends living in New York surviving and sharing their laughs and stories together, like a normal friends do, despite their own discrepancies and own roles. They have simple theme which is about friendship and counting on each other, that made it special and relevant up to now.
I am now in Season 4 of FRIENDS, and still counting. So don’t spoil me okay? Nah, even if I knew what would happen, I would still watch it until the last episode of the last season.
So, have you watched FRIENDS? If none, you should be. You will miss the half of your life “Smelly Cat”.
Sometimes, when a photographer doesn’t have a subject anymore, he shoots himself. There, problem solved!
Whenever you are around
I laugh too hard and sing too much
I open the windows of my chest
That your rays would pass within
Till my heart gets sunburn.
A pain that goes beyond
An ache that stays within
I don’t care how it feels
For me, it’s only the real
In the abyss of my life.
You are the sunshine
Through my darkest days
Showing a way through the light
Soring and blinding my eyes
Until my mind goes white.
I need not a filter
Or an ozone layer
I just want to be with you,
To hug and feel you
Till the heat goes through my heart.
Burn my skin down to my bones
Burn me before you leave and hide
Till twilight kiss the earth
And the moon places itself at high
I know that we cannot always be together
But in my heart sunburn stays forever.
I would enjoy the pain
I would kiss the sore
Until it hurts no more
I will wait till you rise again
To be under your might
To suffer the burn in my heart.
